1. Congratulations on a fabulous concert on Thursday! I had tons of great compliments from the many in attendance! Thank you for everyone that helped with the equipment, it was very helpful!
2. Tonight we will again end rehearsal at 9:00 p.m. in order to load the trailer after rehearsal. That will save us a lot of time and travel on Thursday. However, I will still require help bringing the equipment back to the school after the “A Night at the Pops” Concert.
3. Please visit our web-site (www.ebswe.org) for current news, updated information, concert performance calendars, driving directions, pictures and our question forum.
4. We have solidified our Night at the Pops Concert performance date. One group will help load and unload equipment before and after the performance and the other will help set-up chairs and more importantly, help set-up tables and chairs after the performance for the next day’s wedding. Please sign-up on the sign-up sheet tonight for either crew if you are able to. We will need at approx. 10 people for each group to get the job done!
5. Our “End-of-the-Season” Cookout will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. Once again, we will have volleyball for those interested and my children will be happy to invite any of your younger children to join them on their jungle gym and in their kiddies’ pool! I will provide hot-dogs, hamburgers and drinks. If everyone could bring one item (i.e. Veggies, Potato Chips, Pasta Salad, Watermelon, Dessert, etc.) it would be appreciated. East Bay Summer Chorus Announcements
Dear Members,
Due to unfortunate circumstances and a lower than minimum interest, this summer's Chorus will cease to meet. We will try to pick up and restart the group next summer. Perhaps with a little more word of mouth and a few more interested vocalists, we can continue with our plans to rejuvenate the program! Thanks you to those who came to the rehearsals and showed such great enthusiasm for the program. I hope to see you again next summer!

Announcements
1. Greetings, and welcome to the first rehearsal of the Easy Bay Summer Chorus in this, our re-inaugural season. I am proud to be a part of the tradition of choral singing excellence in this area and am very happy to help guide you through our process together this summer.
2. Here is our repertoire for the summer:
"The Storm is Passing Over", by Charles Tindley - arr. Barbara Baker. This is an up-tempo gospel style tune that has a strong rhythmic feel. There are sections that will be repeated and can include some improvisation!
"Shenandoah" - arr. Linda Spevacek. This is a classic, American folk song. This arrangement has some wonderful harmonies that are easily accessible to anyone and make for wonderful tone painting.
"My Funny Valentine", by Richard Rogers - arr. Kirby Shaw. This wonderful ballad comes to us in an a cappella arrangement. Although there are some intense chords, this will be a very satisfying piece.
"Corner Of The Sky" (from, Pippin), by Stephen Schwartz - arr. John Cacavas. Yes, Schwartz wrote things before Wicked. This is an up-tempo ballad with a duple feel, despite the 4/4 marking.
"America The Beautiful", by Samuel Ward - arr. Joseph Joubert. There are some challenging harmonies, particularly in the introductions to each verse. Although the original poem has 8 verses, this (as do most) arrangement uses only two.
As we come to this group with different levels of musicianship, we all have the same level of caring about the music we make. In order for this season to be the success we all want, I have made some audio files of each of the pieces. When you visit www.ebswe.org and click the “chorus” link, there will be a file for each of the vocal parts and a file with all parts heard simultaneously. If any of you would like a CD, please let me know.
Here's to a season filled with communication at our highest level and
performances at our best! Thank you in advance for your joyous work.
3. Please sign-in to each rehearsal on the sign-in sheet.
4. Please visit our web-site (www.ebswe.org) for current news, updated information, concert performance calendars, driving directions, pictures and our question forum.
5. This season we will be printing out a program booklet to be distributed at all East Bay (Wind Ensembles too) concerts. This worked out very well last year for the organization and did make us a profit for which to buy more music and supplies with. We will be selling business and patron advertisements in the program as a fundraiser. Information regarding that fundraiser will be distributed this evening!
6. We will also be presenting the second annual “Night at the Pops” Concert in late August at The Our Lady of Light Band Club to close our season. This was a huge success last year and plans are in the works for another outstanding event. This concert will feature the EBSWE, EBSYE and EBSC. More info will come in the following weeks!

Dear EAST BAY SUMMER WIND ENSEMBLE Member,
I hope all has been going well for you since last summer! Believe it or not, it is that time of year again as The East Bay Summer Wind Ensemble is beginning rehearsals for its 32nd Summer Season of music. As many of you are aware of, I left my position of Director of Music in the Swansea Public School System to become the new Director of Bands at Somerset High School. Therefore, this season we will move our rehearsals to the stage/auditorium at Somerset High School in Somerset, Massachusetts. The stage is very spacious, acoustically balanced space and there are plenty of music stands & chairs for everyone. As well we have lots of percussion equipment at our disposal and an entire auditorium of seats for visitors to sit down & listen in and for you to set-up your equipment in. A few people brought up concerns about once again moving farther away from our previous rehearsal locations, but I believe that the change will not be problematic at all due to the fact that it is a mere 5 minutes down the road from Case and the rehearsal space is far more conducive to our needs! Our first rehearsal of the season will take place on May 21, 2008 from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. on the stage at Somerset High. Please see the Directions Page for directions to the school. Parking is available in the teachers’ lot adjacent to the south (Auditorium) entrance to the school. Additional updates will be made available on the website throughout the season and remember to join the forum to be able to ask questions and converse online with other EBSWE members regarding the ensemble. Additionally, pictures and performance recordings from previous seasons are on-line as well.
Again this year, in order to cut down on the amount of time that registration sets us back at the first rehearsals, I am going to offer a pre-registration option. Attached to this email is a form that you can send back to me to pre-register for the season (please mail to EBSWE - 17 Naomi Street - Bristol, RI 02809). The fee will be $30 and you can pre-purchase EBSWE Folios ($15) and Performance Polo Shirts ($25) as well. Please remember, that you still can register at the first rehearsal and you will have the first two rehearsals in which you can order your folio and polo. With this option however, I foresee us spending less time on logistics and more time on rehearsing as our first concert is on June 23rd at Independence Park in Bristol for the Bristol 4th of July Concert Series. (New location due to Colt School construction!)
I would also like to extend an invitation to any of you that are interested in helping out the The East Bay Summer Youth Ensemble by performing with and assisting the group at rehearsals and performances. Many members perform with the group on secondary instruments as a way to enhance their music skills. No additional fee is charged for this participation, so if you are interested in joining us, please let me know at the first EBSWE rehearsal as the youth group does not begin rehearsing until the next week.
Additionally, we will once again be offering advertisement space and patrons acknowledgements in our annual program booklet. This fundraiser was very successful in its first year and I have high expectations for it once again this year. We are very close to having enough funds to purchase our own trailer. I would also like to build the EBSWE library and purchase equipment to be owned by the organization in the future. This is one of the ways I can foresee these kinds of things happening. Your efforts last year were overwhelming and I once again ask that you help by seeking out businesses and individuals that are interested in supporting our goals. Attached to this email are Program Ad Information Sheets, Order Forms and 3 Program Advertisement Sample Sheets (1/8 Page, 1/2 Page and Full Page). If you have any questions regarding this fundraiser, please feel free to contact me!
Regardless of this email, you can expect this information mailed to you this week as well. Please feel to print, distribute and/or display the attached recruitment posters. I am extremely excited to see you all again for what promises to be a very exciting and memorable season. Please call me at the above number or send me an email at marshalld@somerset.k12.ma.us if you have any questions or concerns regarding the ensemble or the season. Enjoy your spring and we will see you on May 21st!
