East Bay Summer Youth Ensemble Announcements

The East Bay Summer Youth Ensemble is beginning its 20^th summer season. The ensemble consists of students from East Providence, Barrington, Bristol, Warren, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Swansea, Somerset, Seekonk and beyond. It is open to students entering grades 8-12 who are serious musicians looking to improve upon their skills over the summer.

Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings until mid-August at Somerset High School located at 625 County Street in Somerset, MA beginning on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. Our mission is to provide musicians entering grades 8-12 with a quality summer music experience. Last summer, we had a 82-piece ensemble, which performed in the Bristol and Warren Summer Concert Series as well as for the end of the season Pops Night Concert. We will again have a concert in late July at the Bristol Town Common and our season will conclude with two mid-August performances. One performance will be at the Warren Band Shell and the other will be our 5th Annual Night at the Pops Concert at dates to be announced.

            Registration is $35.00 (checks payable to EBSWE) and is due at one of the first two rehearsals.  If for some reason you cannot attend the Wednesday, June 1^st rehearsal, just register at the next rehearsal on June 8^th.  Directions to Somerset High School are available on the Directions Page within this site. Please bring a pencil to each rehearsal. Also be sure to tell any interested and motivated friends in your band about EBSYE; the more the merrier! Also, information regarding auditions for the EBSWE will be available at the first rehearsal. I hope to see you on June 1^st!

3. Technical Etude or Solo of your choice.

(MEMBERS are Adults, College Students and RIMEA All-State / SEMMEA District Caliber Musicians)

Dear EAST BAY SUMMER WIND ENSEMBLE Member,

I hope all has been going well for you since last summer! Believe it or not, it is that time of year again as The East Bay Summer Wind Ensemble is beginning rehearsals for its 36^th Summer Season of music. We will continue to rehearse on the stage at Somerset High School in Somerset, Massachusetts where I am the Director of Bands. The space has worked quite well for us and the acoustics are outstanding. In addition, we have lots of percussion equipment at our disposal and an entire auditorium of seats for visitors to sit down, listen in and for you to set-up your equipment in. Our first rehearsal of the season will take place on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. on the stage at Somerset High. Please see the directions on the back of this letter to get to the school. Parking is available in the teachers’ lot adjacent to the south (Auditorium) entrance to the school. Additional updates will be made available at www.ebswe.org throughout the season and remember to join the forum to be able to ask questions and converse online with other EBSWE members regarding the ensemble. Additionally, pictures and performance recordings from previous seasons are on-line as well.

        Again this year, in order to cut down on the amount of time that registration sets us back at the first rehearsals, I am going to offer a pre-registration option. Attached to this letter is a form that you can send back to me to pre-register for the season. The registration fee this year will be $35 and you can pre-purchase EBSWE Folios ($20) and Performance Polo Shirts ($30) as well. Please remember that you still can register at the first rehearsal and you will have the first two rehearsals in which you can order your folio and polo. With this option however, I foresee us spending less time on logistics and more time on rehearsing as our first concert will be at the Bristol 4^th of July Concert Series on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. More information regarding (1) The Youth Ensemble, (2) Trailer Advertisement Placard Flyers and (3) the East Bay Summer Chorus will be posted on the web site and will be emailed to you very soon if I have a current email address for you on record! Please review that information before our first rehearsal!

I would also like to extend an invitation to any of you that are interested in helping out the The East Bay Summer Youth Ensemble by performing with and assisting the group at rehearsals and performances. Many members perform with the group on secondary instruments as a way to enhance their music skills. No additional fee is charged for this participation, so if you are interested in joining us, please let me know at the first EBSWE rehearsal as the youth group does not begin rehearsing until the next week.

 Additionally, we will once again be offering advertisement space on our trailer. We are getting closer to paying off the total purchase of the trailer and I would also like to build the EBSWE library and purchase equipment to be owned by the organization in the future. This is one of the ways I can foresee these kinds of things happening. Attached to this email is our Trailer Advertisement Placard Flyer. If you have any questions regarding this fundraiser and know anyone that is interested, please feel free to contact me!

Finally, I am also very happy to announce that we will be once again be sponsoring The East Bay Summer Chorus. Last year the ensemble had a great second season and they are excited to perform again this summer. They are looking for new membership as well. Rehearsal times and dates for the EBSC will be announced soon as we have a new conductor this year; Mr. Andrew S. Arcello! We hope to have the same diversity in the chorus that we boast with EBSWE in that its membership will consist of vocalists of all ages and backgrounds! The registration fee for the group is $35, but will be reduced to $20 for active EBSWE members that are interested in performing with both groups!

The EBSYE is a Summer Wind Ensemble comprised of 8^th – 12^th Grade Instrumentalists that practice and perform a wide variety of fun, exciting and challenging, concert literature!

Membership Requirements:

·        Acceptance into the ensemble is based on your director’s recommendation!

·        Students should have at least 3 years of experience on their instrument.

·       ONLY SERIOUS MUSICIANS looking to improve their skills over the summer with a large 60+ member wind ensemble should apply!

The stage is very spacious, acoustically balanced space and there are plenty of music stands & chairs for everyone. As well we have lots of percussion equipment at our disposal and an entire auditorium of seats for visitors to sit down & listen in and for you to set-up your equipment in! We will have a concert in late July at the Bristol Town Common and our season will conclude with two mid-August performances.
