My name is Mr. Andrew S. Arcello and I am the new Director of the East Bay Summer Chorus. Are you looking for a local opportunity for your students to continue singing and practicing healthy choral techniques over the summer? The East Bay Summer Chorus wants you! Inactive for a number of years, the EBSC was begun in the late 1970’s as part of the East Bay Association for the Arts, under the direction of Mr. Charles Mello and was reinstituted two years ago by Mr. Richard Sylvia. I am honored to be asked by The East Bay Summer Wind Ensemble Director, Mr. David M. Marshall, to continue the development of singers in the greater East Bay area over the summer.
Here is a brief synopsis of my musical background. A 2010 graduate of Providence College, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education with concentrations in voice and choral music. Last year, I began teaching at Somerset High School, where I direct the Concert Choir, Treble Choir, Show Choir, and Chorale in addition to Vocal Techniques, Guitar, and Music Foundations classes. For several years, I have served as the Director of Music (choir director and organist) at Holy Angels Church in Barrington, RI. During the summer months, I co-direct and teach music at Linden Place Cultural Arts camp for students ages 6-13. As an active choral singer, I have had the opportunity to perform with the Moscow and St. Petersburg Conservatory Choirs while on tour in Russia. Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Music degree in Music Education from Boston University.
The East Bay Summer Chorus will hold its first rehearsal of the season on the stage at Somerset High School located at 625 County Street in Somerset, MA on Thursday, May 26th, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Rehearsals are held every Thursday until mid-August. Our mission is to provide musicians entering grades 9 through adult with a quality summer music experience. Please consider encouraging your students to participate if they have had at least one year of choral singing experience. Music literacy, while a great plus, is not required. They will be given several tools to assist them in learning the material. They can expect three public performances this season.
The registration fee is $35.00 for the entire season and is due at the first rehearsal (checks payable to EBSWE), but will be reduced to $20 for active EBSWE members that are interested in performing with both groups! For updated information on the ensemble and directions to Somerset High School, please visit our link on The East Bay Summer Wind Ensemble’s web-site located at WWW.EBSWE.ORG. Thank you in advance for your support and considered participation of this valuable and exciting new summer program! We hope to add to the fine musical tradition that the EBSWE has celebrated for over 30 years!
